SERVOMOTION · SIMULTANEOUS MULTI-LASER POSITIONING

Shuttle Precisor

The right solution for high-density industrial lines where several cutting lines must be positioned at the same time:

  • One servo, unlimited lines: No motor, drive or cable per laser; system cost and cable complexity do not grow as the number of lines increases.
  • Recipe changeover in seconds: The shuttle picks up the locked carriages in turn and moves them to the new size; the line does not wait for minutes.
  • Stability after setup: Each carriage locks mechanically to the rail once positioned, so the lines stay where they were aligned after the shuttle withdraws.

Architecture

Three-Rail Shuttle Architecture

Power transmission, carriage guidance and motion drive sit in one rail assembly. One servo axis performs all movement instead of a motor, drive and cable per laser: fewer components and a simpler maintenance routine. The number of servo axes remains unchanged as laser carriages are added, helping limit system complexity as the application scales.

UPPER RAIL

Power supply

Lasers are powered continuously at any position along the rail, so moving cables and energy chains are not required.

MIDDLE RAIL

Laser carriages

Each laser travels in its own carriage. When it reaches its position it locks on the rail and stays there independently of the shuttle.

LOWER RAIL

Servo shuttle

The only moving axis of the system. It carries the carriages to their recipe positions in sequence and withdraws when finished.

Setup cycle

01

Recipe

Cut dimensions are entered at the panel, and the system calculates the target position for each laser.

02

Approach

The shuttle positions itself under the next laser carriage on the lower rail.

03

Transport

The carriage is moved to its recipe position with the laser on, so the reference line can be followed as it travels.

04

Release

The carriage is fixed in position and becomes independent of the shuttle.

05

Completion

The shuttle moves to the next carriage; once all lines are set it withdraws to the home position.

What This Architecture Delivers

Fewer Parts

No servo motor, drive or cable per laser. As the system grows only the number of carriages increases, not the parts list.

Simple Maintenance

Periodic maintenance is concentrated on the single servo axis. The carriages have no moving electrical connections.

Easy Access

Carriages are added, removed and lasers replaced from the rail; the housing does not have to be removed from the line.

Scalable Investment

When the number of cutting lines grows, the drive and control infrastructure stays the same; only carriages are added.

Low Operating Cost

Few moving components mean few spare parts and short downtime.

Motion video · Setup cycle

Recipe changeover cycle

An uninterrupted recording of one servo axis carrying every laser carriage to its recipe position in sequence. The shuttle travels at 800 mm/s when empty and 500 mm/s when carrying a carriage; at the end of the cycle the lines settle to ±1.00 mm projection accuracy and the shuttle withdraws to its home position. The recording is an accelerated simulation of a 2,400 mm travel range with 20 laser carriages.

Configurator

Configure the system yourself

Enter the required travel range of your line and calculate the number of projected laser lines or the spacing straight away. Lasers not used by the recipe collect in the reserve zone at the end of the rail, and the tool reports carriage clearance checks, safety margins and the total rail length required in real time.

The calculation assumes equally spaced lines. Recipes with variable slice widths are also supported; in that case the limiting factor is the distance between the two closest lines.

System components

Control and motion infrastructure

The laser carriages, the single servo shuttle and the PLC work together to bring every cutting reference to the position held in the recipe. The operator panel gives access to recipe entry and carriage status.

Laser modules

Laser modules on the carriages

  • Red and green laser options
  • One laser module per carriage
  • Focus adjustable to the working distance
  • 12–24 VDC supply
  • Standard M12 connector
Control system

PLC-based control

  • Carriage target positions calculated from the recipe
  • Setup sequence planned and managed
  • Active and reserve carriages tracked
  • Drive communication over PROFINET
  • Operating status and fault diagnostics
Motion system

Single-axis shuttle drive

  • The only moving servo axis in the system
  • Closed-loop position control with encoder feedback
  • Separate speed profiles for empty approach and loaded transport
  • Synchronous communication over PROFINET
  • The number of axes stays the same as reference lines are added
Mechanical group

Three-rail structure and carriages

  • Separate upper, middle and lower rails
  • A carriage locks mechanically to the rail once it reaches its position
  • Carriages outside the travel range wait in the reserve zone
  • Carriages are added and lasers replaced from the rail
  • Rail assembly length scales with the travel range of the line

SAFETY

LASER SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE

Laser class and labelling

The class of the line laser module used in the system is stated on the product label and in the user manual delivered with it. Modules must be operated under the conditions defined in that manual.

During operation

The beam must not be viewed directly. Reflection angles on glossy surfaces are assessed together during installation, and the operator’s working position is reviewed at commissioning.

During maintenance

The system must be de-energised and the line brought to a safe state before optics cleaning and mechanical checks.

Certificate of conformity

The industrial positioning laser modules used in the system have been assessed against EN 55011 and EN 55032 electromagnetic compatibility requirements and certified by TÜV Rheinland LGA Products GmbH (Cert. No. AK 50498967 0001). Request the certificate.

Conformity documentation

The declaration of conformity and the technical file for the delivered system are supplied with the delivery package, project by project.
